One of the nation’s hottest stories is about Kaitlyn “Kaity” Pearson, a 23-year-old model and special education teacher's aide who was suspended from South Street Elementary School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She was reportedly suspended after a package of racy photos was sent to Fitchburg School Superintendent Andre Ravenelle in an anonymous envelope.
Kaity “was immediately placed on a paid leave of absence to assure student safety during the investigation and to mitigate potential disruption,” explained Ravenelle. “This situation poses no threat to the student body and is at this time solely a personnel issue.”
Hmmm…interesting and somewhat contradictory.
Actually, this whole story is interesting and raises some valid questions.

Actually, this whole story is interesting and raises some valid questions.
The first, and probably least important, question is: Who sent the package? Maybe a jilted ex-boyfriend, or perhaps an angry couch potato who didn’t have enough courage to address this matter face-to-face with Kaity? Who cares, it was a cowardly act that had the potential to severely damage someone’s career and livelihood. Complete fail.
The second question is: Ravenelle said “this situation poses no threat to the student body”, so why was Kaity suspended “to assure student safety during the investigation"? Sounds somewhat confusing and misleading, which usually means someone made a hasty judgment. Let’s be honest, if Kaity was guilty of some sort of misconduct with a student, everyone would understand the accusations of jeopardizing student safety. But moonlighting as a model outside of school hours without asking her students to participate… where is the threat to her students?
The third question is: Has anyone picked up a newsstand magazine lately? ESPN’s “The Body Issue” has featured nude photos of Esther Vergeer (handicapped tennis player), Oksana Masters (handicapped Olympic rower), Diana Taurasi (Basketball player), the entire USA Women’s Water Polo Team and USA Women’s Volleyball Team, Hope Solo (soccer player), and many more outstanding, respected athletes.
Ever heard of Gisele Bundchen, the highest paid supermodel in the world, the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program, TIME Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World”, wife of New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, and mother of two beautiful children? Guess what Fitchburg, Gisele has appeared topless on the cover of VOGUE Magazine and many other leading magazines.

But wait, there’s more!
Actress Demi Moore was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair…topless…nude…and pregnant! Demi is no saint, but she did help launch "The Demi and Ashton Foundation", an international non-profit organization which helps "to disrupt and deflate the predatory behavior of those who abuse and traffic children, solicit sex with children or create and share child pornography".
So, what’s the point? If honest, hard-working, charitable athletes, models, actresses, and otherwise influential citizens can pose in implied topless or nude photos and not be suspended from their professions, why should we be so quick to judge a law-abiding teacher’s aide?
I'm curious, would the Fitchburg School System accept an offer from Gisele Bundchen or Demi Moore to give a speech to their students about being a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador or combatting violence against children? Of course they would, even with the knowledge that they posed nude on magazine covers, because the magazine covers are totally separate and irrelevant to the educational message they were relaying to the students. Pretty simple stuff here.
The moral of the story is simple: Kaity Pearson did not engage in any illegal activity, nor did she jeopardize the safety of her students by modeling outside of school hours. If anything, this controversy may just accelerate Kaity’s career and open up more opportunities for her as a model. Good for her.
And to the angry couch-potato or coward who sent the secret envelope to Mr. Ravenelle: grow up, learn to love yourself, and take a nude selfie with your Polaroid camera… stare at it long enough (it may take weeks) and you may just realize that the human body is a beautiful work of art!
